Tucked away on an Industrial Estate, down a lovely tree lined avenue you will be surprised to find a magic showroom furniture.
In the early 1980’s partners Marietta King (a restorer, cabinet maker & designer) and Peter Baker (Production cabinet maker and Management Consultant) formed a company to make furniture people wanted, many of their customers call it “real furniture”!!
Now nearly 28 years later their showrooms are full of the work of English Cabinet Makers and Polishers. The upstairs showroom is much larger than the ground floor, and if you are visiting weekdays, don’t be alarmed by the sound of the men and machines down below.
You will find traditional oak, mahogany and yew tree and various more contemporary ranges in Maple, and light Oak and Ash. “There is also and increasing interest in slightly darker timbers such as Walnut, as long as it is timber, we can make it!” Marietta told me. “We do also now offer some of the better imported Oak furniture, the chairs are particularly well priced and compliment our own ‘in house’ Oak Tables very well”.
Bespoke is a large part of the business and it helps you the customer, to have the chance to wander around the showrooms to get ideas, perhaps drinking a cup of coffee or tea (free) while you discover that you can indeed have exactly what you have been looking for.
Marietta decided in the summer to open a small area of the showroom for Antiques and Collectable pieces, to be sold on a commission basis. Interesting and unusual pieces are preferred. At the moment there is an item which no one can actually identify is it a “gun Stand” or what?
